Set up xAI (Grok) for Marketing Studio

Create an account, add credit, make a key, set a spending limit and paste the key into your site.

1. What it does in Marketing Studio

Text captions: yes. AI photos: yes. Product scenes (Pro): no. Video through Grok Imagine (Pro): yes. One key does text, photo and video (verified); text and images are in the free plugin, video is Pro. In Marketing Studio choose the preset “Grok (xAI)”.

3. Billing, credit and free tier

xAI’s quickstart says to load your account with credits to use the API. The usual way is prepaid credits, which you buy on the Billing page of the console. I did not find a free tier described in the documentation.

4. Create an API key

Open the API keys page in the console and create a key. Keys belong to a team. Copy it when it is shown.

5. Set a hard spending limit at the provider

With prepaid credits, spending is capped by your balance. xAI’s documentation says that when the invoiced billing limit is $0 (the default), requests are rejected once your prepaid credits run out. Monthly invoiced billing is off by default, so leave it off. If you turn on auto top-up, you can set a maximum total value of top-ups per month; use it. xAI shows a warning at 80 per cent of that monthly limit.

6. Paste the key into Marketing Studio

In WordPress go to Marketing Studio > Settings > AI, turn on AI captions, choose the provider preset named above, paste the key into the API key field and save. Marketing Studio stores the key on your own website and sends requests straight from your site to the provider. Nothing is sent to us. You can also change settings from inside the Studio: choose the gear “Settings” in the left rail, or the ••• menu and then Settings.

7. Where your data is processed

The standard endpoint is global, and xAI says it may route requests between regions, so the processing location is not guaranteed. xAI offers a US-only endpoint for text models, but not for images or video. Terms and privacy policy are below.

8. What it costs

Prices depend on the model; images and video are charged per item or per second. Every API response includes the cost charged, which helps you check spending.
