MARKETING STUDIO SETUP GUIDE
Set up OpenAI for Marketing Studio
Create an account, add credit, make a key, set a spending limit and paste the key into your site.
1. What it does in Marketing Studio
Text captions: yes. AI photos: yes. Product scenes (Pro): yes. No video (OpenAI retired its video API in September 2026). In Marketing Studio choose the preset “ChatGPT (OpenAI)”.
2. Create an account
Create an OpenAI API Platform account. This is separate from a ChatGPT subscription.
OpenAI API sign-up ↗3. Billing, credit and free tier
The API is paid by usage. OpenAI’s own quickstart describes a free test request, but real use needs credit added on the billing page of your organisation. Do not assume there is an ongoing free tier.
Billing overview ↗4. Create an API key
Open the API keys page and create a new key. OpenAI recommends project keys: create a separate project for Marketing Studio and create the key inside it, so the key and its limits stay apart from your other work. You can set an expiry date on a key. Copy the key when it is shown; you may not be able to see it again.

OpenAI offers a hard spending limit. Open the organisation limits page, find Spend, choose Edit spend limit, enter a monthly amount and turn on “Enforce a hard limit”. A project can have its own limit under Project settings > Limits. At the limit, requests fail with a 429 error instead of costing more. OpenAI notes that enforcement is not instant, so spend can slightly exceed the amount. A spend alert alone only sends a notification and does not stop requests.

In WordPress go to Marketing Studio > Settings > AI, turn on AI captions, choose the provider preset named above, paste the key into the API key field and save. Marketing Studio stores the key on your own website and sends requests straight from your site to the provider. Nothing is sent to us. You can also change settings from inside the Studio: choose the gear “Settings” in the left rail, or the ••• menu and then Settings.
7. Where your data is processed
OpenAI is a US company. A standard account does not promise a particular processing location. OpenAI documents optional data-residency controls for eligible accounts. OpenAI states that data sent to the API is not used to train its models unless you opt in.

Prices depend on the model and are charged per token for text and per image for pictures. Marketing Studio shows a cost estimate where it can. See OpenAI’s pricing page for current prices.
